10 Tips for an Incredible First Look

Your first look is a beautiful moment packed with emotion, anticipation, and intimacy—it's one of my favorite moments to capture! Here are my top tips to ensure it's as genuine and memorable as you imagine:

1. Choose a Private Spot

Pick a location away from guests and distractions. Privacy helps you both feel more comfortable to react authentically.

2. Prioritize Soft Lighting

Opt for natural, diffused lighting like shaded areas or indoor spaces near large windows. Avoid harsh midday sun that creates strong shadows. (See #3)

3. Scout the Location Together

Visit your chosen spot in advance around the time you’d be doing your first look to visualize how the moment will unfold and eliminate day-of surprises.

4. Allow Time for Emotions

Schedule at least 15-20 minutes so you can fully experience the moment without feeling rushed.

5. Keep It Personal

Exchange letters or small gifts during your first look to add an intimate, personalized touch.

6. Trust Your Photographer’s Direction

I'll gently guide you into the best positions, but from there, your genuine reactions will make the magic happen.

7. Bring Touch-Up Supplies

Have a friend or coordinator nearby with makeup essentials, tissues, or anything you might need afterward.

8. Keep Guests Away (Gently)

Brief your wedding party and family beforehand, letting them know this is a special moment just for the two of you.

9. Coordinate Your Timing

Ensure your photographer knows exactly when you’re ready. Clear communication means nothing gets missed.

10. Just Be Present

Forget about posing perfectly or worrying about tears—focus on each other. Your make up can always be touched up. Your authentic connection is what makes these images unforgettable.

Embrace this moment fully, and the photos will reflect all the love and excitement of your big day.
